Mesmero was a small time crook who posed as a stage hypnotist at high society parties. He used his mutant powers to mesmerize guests into giving him their possessions and then making them forget about them. Mesmero later took control of large numbers of latent mutants, and captured Lorna Dane.
Mesmero and his androids placed Lorna inside a genetic stimulator, which altered her genetic structure to allow her to exercise her latent powers. Mesmero then used his hypnosis on Lorna to alter her personality so that she would sympathize with a faux Magneto and believe him to be her father.
Mesmero later dropped his control over Lorna, assuming that she would obey her supposed father unquestioningly. However, after it was revealed to her that Magneto was not her father, Lorna assisted the the X-Men in defeating the villains.
The X-Men go to Egypt in search of Wolverine, who has been transformed into the Horseman Death by Apocalypse. Once there, Apocalypse's forces and the Skrulls battle the mutant team, but this is only a ruse to distract them from their true purpose: to capture the fabled Twelve, and Polaris is one of them!
Tricking Polaris into believing that her beloved Alex had returned, the Skrulls are able to separate the Mistress of Magnetism from her teammates. Cyclops tries to warn Lorna, but she wouldn't listen, and as a result, she and Phoenix get captured and taken to the mutant overlord. Polaris is later used as one of the magnetic poles to power Apocalypse's reality altering engine.
These events take place circa "X-Men: The Hidden Years". Lorna Dane, now a member of the X-Men is looking for Alex Summers, who defected the mutant team after a serious altercation with Iceman over Lorna's affections.
During her search, Lorna comes across the Incredible Hulk, who confuses her with his beloved Jarella; this makes the Hulk mad, and you know what happens when Hulk gets mad...
Havok arrives to the scene to save Lorna from the Hulk, and after a brief fight, both mutants return to the X-Men, leaving the Hulk behind to deal with his own problems.
I landed near Magneto's headquarters. I had no plan, just fury. And I... I was greeted as a celebrity. Magneto must have learned of my investigation and revealed to the genoshans that I truly was his daughter. They greeted me as a sovereign princess when I arrived... and they were still worshipping me as they died!
It all happened so fast, and there were so many sentinels...
A man who once sold me bread was decapitated right in front of my eyes. A woman who I'd met at one of Magneto's banquets was ripped in half. So many killers... so much screaming... so many dying..
I didn't know where to turn... who to help... which sentinel to stop first. And with the accusations of human judgment screaming in my ears... all I could think was that he was right...
MAGNETO HAD BEEN RIGHT ALL ALONG!
I flew through the wailing mothers and dying children. Their blood and bones couldn't touch me in my protective, magnetic bubble... but their screams could... I was overwhelmed... and suddenly, I wasn't the X-Man heroine... I was just running... running to get away from the horror of the dying... to find safety for myself. There had to be somewhere to hide... didn't there? Some place where I could get away? Some place where I...I...
If one is to pick the ultimate Polaris villain, that has to be the psychic entity known only as Malice. A member of Mr. Sinister's Marauders, and their field leader, Malice is an incorporeal creature that possesses her victims to do her bidding. After possessing Alison Blaire a.k.a. Dazzler for a time and create discord among the X-Men, Malice found a new home in Polaris' body soon after. During this time, Polaris became an enemy of the X-Men, and Malice sure made their life miserable, particularly during the events of "Inferno". The only distinctive sign that Malice has taken possession of someone is the choker that her victims wear in their necks.
Did you draw this? Let me know and get a shout out!
...and she is pissed! After Havok calls off the wedding as she is walking down the isle, Polaris finally snaps, and using all the metal in the surroundings to turn herself into a derranged version of Magneto, the Mistress of Magnetism goes after Alex Summers!

Camouflage; a means of concealment that creates the effect of being part of the natural surroundings. Although we don't think anyone would confuse X-Factor's bewitching beauty Polaris with a palm tree, she can't hide the fact that her luxuriant emerald tresses make her the perfect complement to this lusciously lovely landscape.
"For a mutant who's been manipulated by Magneto and possessed by Malice, I'm amazed how strong Lorna is. Beyond her ability to control magnetic forces, she's got an unshakable belief in what's right, a passionate love for Havok, and a powerful concern for her team. If X-Factor has a soul, it's her." - Forge
